About the programme
Healthcare Without Borders
In too many parts of the world, a woman's chance of surviving childbirth depends not on the severity of her condition — but on her postcode. In underserved communities across Nigeria, access to skilled maternal care remains dangerously limited. Healthcare Without Borders was built to change that. We send skilled medical and midwifery professionals directly to the communities that need them most — removing every barrier between a mother and the care she deserves. From home births attended by our traveling midwife, to free community health clinics, to maternal care at the FCT IDP Camp — we go where the hospitals won't, and we stay as long as we are needed. Every life we touch is a reminder of why this work matters — and why it cannot stop.
"No woman should face the most vulnerable moment of her life without a skilled, compassionate person by her side. That is what we are here for."
— Lovetti Lafua, Founder
What we offer
Our healthcare services
Five core services — all delivered free of charge, all delivered where they are needed most.
01
Traveling Midwife
Our skilled midwives travel directly to families — attending home births, providing antenatal care, and supporting mothers through labour and postpartum recovery in the comfort of their own communities.
Maternal care
02
Community health clinics
We run regular free health clinics in underserved communities — providing check-ups, screenings, health education, and referrals to specialist care where needed.
Primary care
03
IDP Camp medical care
Through our FCT IDP Camp partnership, we deliver regular medical care to displaced families — addressing both acute health needs and longer-term preventive care for women and children.
Humanitarian
04
Maternal health education
We run workshops and one-on-one sessions covering pregnancy health, safe delivery, breastfeeding, postpartum care, and newborn health — empowering mothers with knowledge as well as care.
Education
05
Emergency obstetric support
For high-risk pregnancies and obstetric emergencies in areas without hospital access, our team provides immediate skilled support and coordinates emergency referrals when needed.
Emergency care
Why this matters
The crisis we are responding to
Nigeria has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world. For every 100,000 live births, an estimated 512 mothers die — most from causes that are entirely preventable with skilled care. In displaced communities, that number is even higher. Women in IDP camps face childbirth without midwives, without equipment, and without any safety net. We cannot change the system overnight. But we can show up — and that is exactly what we do.
Our approach
We go to them
Most healthcare models ask patients to come to a clinic. We reverse that model entirely. Our team travels to the communities, homes, and camps where the need is greatest.
- No travel required from the patient — we come to you
- All services are completely free of charge
- Skilled, trained midwives and health workers
- Culturally sensitive, community-led care
- Follow-up visits and ongoing postpartum support
